Pittsburgh Aviary | Pittsburgh Photographer

Dave and I, along with his parents, find that even though we’ve lived within 15 miles of Pittsburgh since childhood, we have rarely explored some of the treasures Pittsburgh has to offer.  So on Father’s Day, in an attempt to be a tourist in our own city, we visited the Pittsburgh National Aviary.  What a nice experience!  Our feathered friends ran the gamut from Penguins to Parrots, and provided with many excellent photo opportunities.  Dave, armed with his Canon 5D, of course, was excited to take some great images of the wildlife.  It was a wonderful adventure, complete with feeding the Lorikeets sweet nectar right out of our own hands!  We definitely suggest that all you Pittsburghers get out to the Aviary and take a look around… That 5th grade field trip doesn’t count as a real visit anymore… View it  from a new perspective, from adult eyes, with a child’s heart, and I promise, you’ll learn something new and enjoy it!

Bahamas Cruise | Mini Golf On The Carnival Cruise Line

Sara and I took a cruise to the Bahamas for the first time and while we were on the ship we decided that we would like to try the mini gold course that was on the top level of the Carnival Pride cruise ship.  Let me tell you, if you have never been a cruise before that it can get very windy at times and you should be carful.  We must have chosen the windiest day of our cruise because we felt like we were going to fly right off of this ship.  It was pretty funny trying to play mini golf with this heavy wind.  Check out my video clip of us trying to play mini golf, I think it was hilarious!  Sara don’t lose your golf ball…

Last Day At Sea | Caribbean Cruise Vacation

On our last day at sea, we were sad to see the blue, crystal clear water replaced by the deep and endless navy blue of the Atlantic.  The sun slipped behind the clouds, and the rain came in.  We spent the last day eating and talking and touring the ship again.  And we bought some nice souvenirs in the Shops, which offered everything from Alcohol and candy to clothes and diamond jewelry.  But Dave and I ended our trip in style, making use of the Ship’s Beautiful Mind and Body Spa, with a Couples’ Hot Stone Massage.  I recommend that everyone get a Hot Stone Massage!  WOW!  I have never gotten a professional full body massage before, with or without hot stones, and neither had Dave.  What a luxury!  Dave and I loved it!  We loved it so much we are looking around our hometown and in Pittsburgh for a spa that offers them!  The stones weren’t simply placed on our backs as I envisioned, oh no, our lovely masseuses used the stones to do some of the massaging.  It was incredible.  I am still relaxed!  We ended the day at the Piano Bar, where I got up and sang because Roger, the piano man, heard me singing along and thought I ought to sing on my own.  J  That was nice!  What a great trip.  We can’t wait to cruise again!  How do you pass up a trip to the Caribbean on a floating 5-Star Hotel?   With our next trip, already in the planning stages to Maui, Hawaii!  World travelers we are!  Woohoo!

Day 5 Of Our Caribbean Cruise | Freeport

Our last port was Freeport in the Bahamas.  Our last excursion was Kayak and Snorkel!  We were excited.  We were charted over to a beach where we were given kayaks, life-jackets, and paddles.  We were given a quick, and rather humorous lesson on how to steer and then into the waves we went.  Man!  This was tougher than it looks!  With the waves and the wind, Dave and I just couldn’t seem to get the hang of it.  We got to the little Cay we were aiming for, but we were last in line!  I was glad to put my feet upon solid sand again, and was looking forward to the snorkel part of the Kayak and snorkeling.  I grabbed my mask and my fins and away we went on a semi-guided tour where the instructors pointed out different animals of interest, fish and plant life, and some beautiful corral. I even got to hold some snail like specimen, which was gross, but pretty cool.  When we returned we struggled and kayaked our way back to the beach.  Then we were given a tour by Ricardo on our return trip, complete with jokes and a few interesting stories and lessons on the culture and demographics of the island.  Our guide was a riot!  Dave and I learned a lot and truly enjoyed the drive as much as the Kayak and Snorkel.  It was like an extra added bonus.

It was back to the ship after a quick grape soda and a shopping spree to shower, nap, have dinner and enjoy a Vegas style show including some great Karaoke with other cruisers.

Day 4 Of Our Caribbean Cruise | Half Moon Cay

At Half Moon Cay, Dave and I had scheduled our first excursion.  We had signed up for Horse Back Riding by Land and by Sea.  We had chosen this excursion because Dave and I had done horseback riding on the beach in Puerto Rico, and that had been one of the most amazing experiences of our lives.  Well I can tell you this, nothing prepared me for this experience!  We spent a few hours at Half Moon Cay on the beach and snorkeling (where we saw thousands of transparent fish swimming around, so cool! ) first, and then when it was nearing the end of the time we had we headed over to try our hand.  Our instructors were amazing.  They paired us up with some beautiful animals, allowed us to get on our horses using a stepladder (thank goodness, cause I’m about 6 feet shorter than most horses, I swear!).  Once paired, (my horse’s name was Respect), we followed, trail style up a steep hill to the highest elevation on the island, a whopping 60 feet above sea level!  The view to the sea and the tiny cay was beautiful.  Dave was using his camera the whole way!  Then we headed back, thinking our walk was complete as we ambled along the sea.  Wow, we were wrong.  They took the saddles off the horses, put on water-pads, and loaded us back onto the horses’ backs.  Then they took us swimming—yes swimming— with the horses.  Here we are with the water lapping around us and the waves crashing in, riding in a “bareback” style with these beautiful creatures!  It was AWESOME!  And the horses definitely enjoyed it!

When we returned from the ship, it was another shower, (the shower was always hot and wonderful by the way!) and another nap before dinner and a show!
